It is About Sharing

Knowledge is for sharing. Do not keep your knowledge to yourself alone. Let it grows. The more you share, the more you learn and in the end you become a better person.

Know Your Qiblah Direction

Every year on 27th May at 5.18pm and 15th July at 5.27pm (both Malaysia time), we are able to check the accuracy of our qiblah direction. However, this does not mean that our qiblah direction keeps changing. For more info, please click here http://www.islam.gov.my/portal/pdf/Semakan%20arah%20kiblat.pdf.

For the benefit of non-Malay language readers, I translate the article from the above website.
On 27 May 2008 at 5.18 pm and 15 July 2008 at 5.27 pm according to Malaysia Time, the Muslims in Malaysia will be able to check their qiblah direction at their respective location. Based on the sun data analysis by Research Division of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, the sun will be right on top of the ka'abah n both times for the year 2008 which is a leap year thus causing shadow of all objects to fall towards the qiblah direction. According to astronomy, this condition happens when the sun's declination is parrallel with the Ka'abah's latitude. One of the ways that can be used is to put up a pole in an open area and the shadow of the pole is the most accurate direction of the qiblah. Muslims are encouraged to ensure that their time is accurate so as to ensure that they will get the accurate result.
